Bromsgrove’s The Wildmoor Oak reopens as beautiful gastropub
May 17, 2024

Okay, I know Bromsgrove is technically Worcestershire, but it’s not only just across the county border from Warwickshire – it’s where I grew up.

No doubt the town and surrounding area has changed somewhat, and I’m long overdue a return trip. That trip may wellstart with the Wildmoor Oak, which is about to reopen after a full refurbishment after 18 months being closed with a team behind it who I’m fairly sure will make it a success.

That team is headed up by Bromsgrove locals Bex Wilkins, who grew up in the town, and wife Sarah Robinson, who have spent the last decade at Peach Pubs running award-winning gastropubs across the West Midlands, Warwickshire and further afield. They will be joined in the kitchen by Head Chef Peter Jackson, who hails from Michelin starred Carters of Moseley in Birmingham and brings with him a love of cooking simple but delicious dishes made with best of British produce. Dream team indeeed.

More than half a million pounds has been giving the pub a top to toe refurb, with the aim of making it a great gastropub that’s good to eat, drink and socialise. As well as the lovely interior there’s plenty of outside space, with wooden benches and high tables plus a covered patio with tables for a bite to eat.

The menus are set to regularly change, alongside daily specials created by Peter Jackson using quality ingredients carefully sourced from suppliers he knows and trusts.  Dishes include starters of Worcester Black Bomber rarebit with sourdough or pig’s head terrine with celeriac slaw and a panzanella and burella salad, while mains include everything from Aubrey Allen steaks to Blythburgh gammon or fish and vegetarian dishes. Of course there are Sunday roasts, plus vegan options as well as a menu children.

Of course, the drinks are plentiful – from English wine to classic lagers including Cruzcampo and Birra Moretti, cask ales from Purity and Timothy Landlord as well as Brixton IPA and Beavertown’s Neck Oil, plus traditional and house cocktails.

“We’re really excited to be here in the village and on home territory opening The Wildmoor Oak,” said co-owner Bex Wilkins. “We’ve long wanted to open our own place, having run great gastropubs for others over the years, and when the chance came, we jumped at it.  To us, a great experience is about much more then good food and drink – it’s all about the hospitality. And that’s what you’ll find here; great hospitality, restaurant quality food at pub prices, friendly faces and a relaxed, easy-going environment.

“Ours is a pub that you can come to whatever the occasion, whether you’ve just finished a long walk with the dog and want to sit near the fire with a pint of beer or get dressed up and come for a great steak and a nice bottle of wine.  The Wildmoor Oak is somewhere you can come any time and have a great time.  We can’t wait to welcome you.”

The Wildmoor Oak opens on Monday 20th May and serves good food every day. Opening hours are Monday – Thursday 10am-10pm, Friday and Saturday 10am-11pm and Sunday 10am-10pm. Find out more and book a table by going to, where you can also sign up for news about the pub.
