If you’re looking for something to do either with friends or the children, I’ve found you a little something that might be just the thing. Right in the south of the county, Susie Whitfield – AKA The Cotswolds Baking Workshops – is offering a whole range of spooky-themed Halloween Treats and Halloween Macarons workshops during October half-term.
Susie’s workshops take place at her home kitchen in Shipston-on-Stour and offer an informal, hands-on approach perfect for all ages to master successful baking and to experiment with decorating in a safe and friendly environment.
The two-hour Halloween Treats workshop includes mastering pumpkin spiced latte macarons decorated for Halloween, churros with chocolate dipping sauce and chocolate bark studded with Halloween sweets, while the Halloween Macaron workshop includes making delicious fillings and learning suitably spooky decorating techniques. At the end of each workshop, you’ll go home with your creations boxed up and printed recipes of everything you made.
Originally from Albuquerque in New Mexico, Susie, a former primary school teacher, set up The Cotswolds Baking Workshop in January 2021, combining her love of baking, hospitality experience and professional teaching. She’s passionate about championing local artisan suppliers sourcing as much local produce for her workshops as possible.
Her workshops range from proper London market-style doughnuts to perfecting classic British
bakes and French patisserie skills, such as pastry-based tarts, rolls and desserts. Susie’s signature class is ‘Perfecting the French Macaron’ and she also teaches American favourites such as bagels, cinnamon buns, cupcakes and brownies as well as offering seasonal workshops.
Susie will also travel to teach baking skills at private homes, Air B&Bs, holiday cottages or other venues in the Cotswolds area, and you can even ask her to teach you and someone else how to make a particular favourite bake of your choice.

One of Susie’s most popular workshops is the Afternoon Tea Masterclass. Learn how to make traditional scones, savouries and delectable mini cakes followed by an afternoon tea party where you can enjoy what you’ve baked served on vintage china at the end of the
workshop, along with a big pot of English afternoon tea. Any remaining bakes are boxed up for students to take home.
All classes last at least two hours and cost from £50 per adult. The Halloween Treats workshop costs £50 per person, and the Halloween Macarons Workshop costs £75. Included in the price of each workshop is all the ingredients and equipment, with everything made on the day boxed up ready to take home along with printed recipes of all items baked.
