The White Lion reopens in Radford Semele, Leamington Spa

If you’re looking for a new place to try in Leamington, you might want to head to Radford Semele where The White Lion has reopened its doors after a huge transformation by new owners Peach Pubs.

I’m a big fan of Peach – they own pubs across Warwickshire including the Star & Garter in Leamington, the Rose and Crown in Warwick, and many more. They’re one of their groups that do everything well, from decent food to good service, and it’s no surprise they’re continuing to expand.

The White Lion is the latest addition to their portfolio and they’ve given the thatched building in the hart of Radford Semele a complete makeover, breathing new life into what will be a great local spot, I’m sure.

Inside there’s a fresh interior and the old, beamed building has been carefully restored, creating cosy nooks
and crannies as well as plenty of original exposed brickwork and dark wooden beams.

There’s a light, modern garden room with new bi-fold doors opening onto a terrace and large, secluded garden with lounging sofas and tables, plus a covered pergola and sheltered dining space that can be booked for private parties.

The new menu from Head Chef Stefan Elliot, whose career has included time at Michelin-starred Northcote Manor as well as a stint in Spain working under Sergi Arola, a close friend of the late Paul Bocuse, is all about seasonal dishes, with influences from his classic background as well as time in the Mediterranean.

Dishes will include steaks supplied by Aubrey Allen, plus options like hand-picked Devon crab and poached salmon salad, goats’ cheese croustillant with fresh figs and honey and garlic and paprika king prawns with roast tomatoes and toasted sourdough. You can also expect daily fish specials using the freshest of fish from day boats, plus daily-changing vegetarian special and vegan options.

To finish off, there are classic puddings and British cheeses, plus a Sunday roast menu with Aubrey Allen’s Dry-aged rump of beef and Jimmy Butler’s free-range pork and crackling as well as Vegetarian Wellington with artichoke heart, spinach, Emmental and pine nuts.

General manager Lianne Sargent said: “We firmly believe that every great village deserves a really great pub, serving seasonal dishes with genuine hospitality, and that’s just what we hope to bring to Radford Semele.

“I’ll be working with my fantastic team to make sure everyone feels at home, whether you pop in for a glass of wine in the sunshine, while away a couple of hours over a leisurely lunch or a come for a celebration dinner with family and friends. So come and enjoy the new White Lion soon.”
