Warwickshire Gin Company: Afternoon tea experiences and other news
December 22, 2023

[Disclosure: I was invited to one of Warwickshire Gin Company’s experiences free of charge to try it out. I did, however, spend some of my own hard-earned cash on a few bottles of their gin because it’s great]

We’re blessed with a fair few local gin distilleries these days in Warwickshire, all of them with great stories, and all offering something slightly different.

Among those is Warwickshire Gin Company – a small-batch distillery tucked away in the Victoria Business Centre in Leamington Spa where you’ll find their traditional copper pot and a cosy setting perfect for the range of experiences they offer. They make gin, vodka and rum – all inspired by local stories and history.

Their already successful range including: Leamington on Parade, inspired by the true story of three elephants brought over from Sri Lanka to Leamington by circus elephant trainer Sam Lockhart in the 1880s; The Kingmaker, named after Richard Neville 16th Earl of Warwick; and Peeping Tom, inspired by the legend of Coventry’s Lady Godiva.

Earlier this year the award-winning distillery also launched two new special-edition rums inspired by Leamington boxing legend Randolph Turpin. The Pugilist – Sting Like A Bee – Honey Rum and Pugilist Ghost Edition White Rum, are based on the company’s Spice Blended Rum, which took Bronze at last year’s International Spirits Awards.

Gin and afternoon tea

Never ones to stand still, Warwickshire Gin Company have now announced another new launch. They’re collaborating with fellow Warwickshire drinks business Purity Brewing Company to create new Emperor Dry Hopped Gin.

The collaboration builds on a partnership that began during the Covid pandemic when Warwickshire Gin Company sold Purity’s products on its site, leading them to create a hop-infused gin made with a new English hop variety named in memory of Purity’s late co-founder Jim Minkin who enjoyed a passion for Roman history.

It will be available online and in store at www.puritybrewing.com and www.warwickshiregincompany.co.uk whilst also being stocked exclusively at Purity’s Birmingham-based tap room PureCraft Bar and Kitchen.

Afternoon G & Tea

Along with their innovative creations, Warwickshire Gin Company lay on an array of experiences to show off their spirits, from tastings and cocktail events to their recently-launched Afternoon Gin & Tea. They’re held at their distillery which is a cosy space nestled under the arches at Victoria Business Centre and are a great way to get to know their products.

The Afternoon Gin & Tea is a great combination of edible treats and some great drinks to accompany them. Pre-bookable and held at 4pm on Saturdays, you’ll join a small group of people in the distillery where you can snuggle into one of their many comfy sofas and be served G&Ts or cocktails along with a lovely, locally-made afternoon tea.

The price includes a welcome drink – G&T of course – and then also another drink of your choice, which can be anything from one of their gins and a recommended mixer (isn’t it great having someone on hand to tell you exactly what goes best with what) or you can even upgrade to one of the cocktails on offer.

The afternoon tea isn’t made in-house, but is always sourced from local suppliers, and the one I had was great. Sandwiches made with soft, fresh bread – the beef and horseradish got my vote. An array of cakes including lemon drizzle and sticky toffee. The obligatory scone with jam and cream. But the piece de resistance – some booze-infused chocolates made by a local chocolatier.
