How to Host an Effortless Easter Lunch at Home

It doesn’t take much to get me enthused about gathering people around for food, drink and fun. Easter is as good as any, and in some ways better, given that spring is just about springing, the days are getting longer, and there’s all sorts of new ingredients in season for that halfway house between hearty, winter comfort food and lighter summer dishes.

For me, Easter entertaining is all about keeping things simple. A relaxed, easy Easter lunch with a few delicious dishes, a beautifully set table and plenty of time to actually enjoy the moment rather than spending the whole day in the kitchen. With a little planning — and a few helpful kitchen essentials — it’s surprisingly easy to create an Easter meal that feels special without being stressful.

Planning a Relaxed Easter Lunch Menu

The key to any hosting is planning, and when it comes to stress-free Easter entertaining, I think the best thing to do is to keep the menu simple. Easter meals don’t have to be complicated to provide the joy of sitting down with family or friends and enjoying good food and drink, which means all you need is a handful of well-chosen dishes and a bit of planning and prep to create a lovely spread.

For me, that means things that are easy to prepare in advance and suitable for everyone to share. Some kind of main event that’s easy to cook but looks impressive on the table, with plenty of sides that people can dig into. Add a simple dessert – made in advance again – and you’ve got an easy, crowd-pleasing meal.

The last thing you want to be is more stressed than the Easter bunny, so don’t pile on the pressure. Stick to simple, and guaranteed it will still impress.

Keeping the Menu Simple

It’s easy to get carried away when you’re entertaining but trust me when I say a simple menu is often just as impressive as something more complex.

For Easter entertaining, you’ve got the option of great seasonal ingredients. Yes, spring lamb is popular, but a roast chicken goes down just as well, or you could go for salmon – a traditional Good Friday fish supper.

When it comes to vegetables, asparagus screams spring and is super easy to cook, while no Easter lunch is complete without some new potatoes. Add greens like spring cabbage, kale or purple sprouting broccoli, and you’ve got a super easy meal. Easy to prepare, easy to cook, and even easier to eat.
One way to jazz up any meal is to add some kind of sauce. It just somehow feels a bit more special and restaurant-y, so no matter how simple your main is, come up with a sauce and you’re guaranteed to impress. For chicken you could try an easy white white, mustard and cream sauce, or maybe do something with wild garlic which is always ripe for the foraging around Easter.

Preparing Dishes in Advance

Preparing stuff ahead of time is the easiest way to keep Easter entertaining (or any kind of entertaining for that matter) stress-free. Prep veggies in advance, and pick ones that cook relatively easily, and sort out the ingredients for any sauces in good time. If possible, you can even cook your sauce in advance and just reheat it when your guests arrive, leaving you free to enjoy their company while you finish little bits off.

If you want to simplify things even further, you could go down the one-pot route, but these days the great gadgets out there mean you can cook all sorts of things relatively easy without having to fret too much.

Easy Easter Cooking with the Right Kitchen Appliances

One of the easiest ways to simplify Easter cooking is by using appliances and gadgets that take the pressure off, whether that’s removing complexity from recipes or simply taking some of the pressure off the oven.

Most of us have got an air fryer these days, and while it’s easy to think they’re suitable for everyday cooking but not for the big entertaining occasions, that’s definitely not the case.

Whether it’s cooking a whole roast chicken, or just doing simple sides like crispy potatoes or roasted vegetables, you’ll find Ninja air fryers can cope with a wide range of cooking tasks, and the Ninja Crispi especially is good for prepping stuff that can go straight from the kitchen to the table.

For my simple Easter menu, I roasted a whole chicken in it, as well as some hasselback new potatoes, before removing the chicken to rest then switching the mode to air fry to crisp up the potatoes. But even if I’d wanted to use my oven to roast the chicken, I’d have benefited from the extra easy way to cook my sides and get them straight on to the table in a serving dish.

Basically, using appliances like this helps streamline your cooking, especially when you’re hosting and juggling multiple dishes at once, making for stress-free Easter entertaining.

Creating a Beautiful Easter Table

While the food is important, the table itself helps create a relaxing Easter atmosphere. Slightly less extravagant than Christmas, but with that ‘special’ feeling of Easter entertaining and a nod to the change in seasons.

Keeping with the theme of stress-free Easter entertaining, I like to keep the table pretty simple. When it comes to how to style an Easter table, you can literally stick to a neutral table runner, place mats, a vase of fresh flowers and folded napkins.

Add a coordinated set of tableware and suddenly everything feels nicely put together. There’s so much choice out there when it comes to dinner sets to suit every occasion. I’m really into the ones that are a bit rustic and handmade looking – the kind that are all the rage in restaurants these days – but you can choose anything you like. The fact it’s all matchy matchy easily makes the table feel a little more elevated without any extra effort.

After that, it’s just the case of adding some nice glassware and cutlery and you’ve got a nice relaxed table that feels like you’ve made an effort without being too over the top.

Bringing Everything Together

One of my favourite things about Easter hosting is that it doesn’t need to be overly formal. Some of the best moments happen when everyone is gathered around the table sharing dishes, helping themselves to seconds and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.

That’s why I love to create something that’s ‘family style’ – everything on the table so people can dig in, hence the roast chicken and a load of sides, with a jug of sauce that people can douse their meals in. There’s just something about passing bowls around, digging in, chatting away that feels relaxed and convivial rather than some kind of fraught attempt at recreating a restaurant experience while slowly having a nervous breakdown.

I also try not to get too wound up about timings, and my friends and family know that while we may aim for a rough time to eat, if it’s ten minutes after that because we’re having a great chat, or something isn’t quite cooked and needs longer, then it really isn’t the end of the world. Especially when you’re sitting in nice surroundings, sharing the moment with people you love and knowing that the meal will taste all the better for it.

Enjoying the Moment

At the end of the day, Easter hosting is really about spending time together. Good food, a welcoming table and a relaxed atmosphere really are all you need to make things memorable.

The best way to do this if you’re entertaining at Easter is to invest in the right appliances to make life easier – not harder – in the kitchen, as well as some tableware and crockery that’s guaranteed to transform your table into an inviting haven of fun and laughter. Special without being over-complicated, that’s all people want.

And the best part? Once everything is on the table, you can sit back, relax and enjoy those moments around the table with family and friends rather than spending your afternoon or evening stressed and unable to enjoy the moment.

Because life’s simply too short not to enjoy entertaining – whether it’s Easter or any other time of the year.
